HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A late-night argument turned deadly Monday when 33-year-old Thaddeus Stewart was shot and killed outside a Turf Avenue residence. Huntsville Police Department officers responded to the scene around 9 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire in the area.
Authorities found Stewart suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the home’s front yard. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Huntsville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Crime scene investigators remained on location for several hours documenting evidence.
Preliminary findings suggest Stewart was involved in a physical altercation immediately before the shooting. “This appears to have been a dispute between individuals who knew each other,” said HPD spokesperson Lt. Donny Shaw. Investigators have not identified any suspects or made arrests as of Tuesday morning.
The fatal shooting marks Huntsville’s third homicide this month, continuing a troubling pattern of violent confrontations in residential areas. Neighbors reported hearing shouting followed by multiple gunshots, though no one witnessed the actual shooting.
Stewart’s family described him as a devoted father and community member. “He was always helping others and didn’t deserve to die like this,” said a tearful relative who asked not to be named. Friends are organizing a memorial service for later this week.
HPD urges anyone with information to contact their Major Crimes Unit at (256) 722-7100 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at (256) 53-CRIME. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case.
