ST. PAUL, MN — The Dayton’s Bluff community is reeling after 19-year-old Jay’Mier K. Givens was fatally stabbed late Monday night. Police found the young man bleeding from multiple wounds near Sixth and Birmingham streets around 11:30 p.m., marking the city’s second homicide this year.
First responders performed emergency care before rushing Givens to Regions Hospital, where he later died. Investigators confirmed the victim had no connection to the residence where he was found, leaving them scrambling to determine why he was in the area and what led to the violent confrontation.
As of Wednesday, no suspects have been identified and no arrests made. Police are reviewing security footage from nearby homes and businesses while interviewing potential witnesses. “We’re pursuing every lead to bring justice for Jay’Mier,” said Commander Sean McGinty of the St. Paul Police Department’s homicide unit.
The tragedy has hit Givens’ family especially hard. Relatives describe him as a hardworking young man who recently earned his electrical certification and dreamed of starting his own business. “He was turning his life around,” said his tearful mother, LaToya Givens. “Now we’re just left with questions.”
Community leaders have organized a vigil for Friday evening at Dayton’s Bluff Park. The neighborhood has seen increased patrols since the killing, as residents express concerns about growing violence. “This used to be a quiet area,” said longtime resident Miguel Ortiz. “Now people are afraid to walk at night.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the St. Paul Police Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest as investigators work to piece together Givens’ final hours.
