FRISCO, Texas — A tragic incident during an athletic event at David Kuykendall Stadium on April 2, 2025, has left the Frisco community reeling. One student-athlete, identified as Austin Metcalf, was fatally stabbed, and another student, 18-year-old Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder.
According to the Frisco Police Department, multiple 911 calls were made from the stadium on the evening of the event, reporting a stabbing in progress. Officer Eduardo Cortez, a School Resource Officer, was among the first responders to arrive at the scene and confirmed Metcalf’s fatal injuries.
Witnesses quickly pointed out Anthony as the suspected attacker. The arrest report states that Anthony, described as a Black male wearing a gray hoodie and blue sweatpants, voluntarily told Officer Cortez, “I was protecting myself,” as he was approached. No weapon was found during the initial pat-down, and Anthony was taken into custody without further incident.
Officer Allyson Ricci arrived to assist as Anthony was escorted to a patrol vehicle. Witnesses noted he appeared visibly upset, repeatedly saying, “He put his hands on me.” Officers refrained from further questioning at the scene to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
At the Frisco Police Department Jail, Anthony was processed, issued jail clothing, and examined for injuries. Officers documented a wound on one of his fingers and photographed it for evidence. Investigators say these details, along with Anthony’s statements, will be critical in evaluating his self-defense claim.
Police confirmed that Anthony is a student at Frisco Centennial High School. He now faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with Metcalf’s death. Authorities have not released further information regarding the motive or the events that led to the deadly confrontation.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Frisco Police Department. Officials are urging any witnesses or individuals with additional information to come forward as they work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.
The Frisco Independent School District has not yet commented publicly, but grief counselors are expected to be made available to students and staff. The community continues to mourn the sudden loss of a young athlete while grappling with the shocking violence that unfolded during what was supposed to be a routine school event.
