CHANNAHON TOWNSHIP, Ill. — A deadly crash early Monday morning near the I-55 interchange on Arsenal Road has claimed the life of 38-year-old James Donisch, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office. The fatal incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., prompting a swift emergency response from local fire departments and state authorities.
The Braidwood Fire Department was first to notify Elwood Fire of the crash, leading to a rapid dispatch of first responders. Upon arrival, crews discovered a severely damaged passenger vehicle that had collided with a semi-truck near the busy interchange. Donisch was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in critical condition, but despite emergency efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary reports suggest that Donisch lost control of his vehicle while navigating near the interchange. His vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck by a semi-truck exiting from southbound I-55. The truck driver, a 36-year-old man from Romeoville, was not injured in the crash, authorities confirmed.
The Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation and are currently reviewing the crash scene and available evidence. Officials have not yet determined the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are expected to examine several factors, including weather and road conditions, vehicle speed, and the possibility of mechanical failure.
This tragic loss has shaken the local community, as family and friends mourn the untimely death of James Donisch. Known for his kind nature and hard work, his passing has left many searching for answers and comfort in the wake of the accident.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has relevant information to contact the Illinois State Police. As the investigation continues, officials emphasize the importance of safe driving—especially in areas near high-traffic interchanges—to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
