SHREVEPORT, La. — A local woman who was hospitalized following a single-vehicle crash in Shreveport last week has died from her injuries, officials confirmed Wednesday. The victim, 66-year-old Eula Foster, passed away at Ochsner LSU Health, where she had been receiving treatment since the accident.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, the crash occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 28, in the 4200 block of North Market Street. Foster was driving southbound when her vehicle veered off the road, crossed the median, struck a tree, and overturned. Authorities responded quickly to the scene, where Foster was found injured but conscious.
Emergency responders initially believed her injuries, including a broken ankle, were not life-threatening. However, Foster’s condition deteriorated after she was transported to the hospital. Family members at the scene informed officers that she had a history of seizures, which may have contributed to the accident. While no official medical cause has been confirmed, police are investigating whether a seizure may have caused Foster to lose control of her vehicle.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office notified Shreveport police on the morning of June 4 that Foster had died at the hospital. The exact cause of death is still pending, and it remains unclear whether an autopsy or toxicology report will be conducted to determine if a medical emergency was directly responsible for the crash.
Foster’s death has left her family and neighbors heartbroken. Community members remember her as a kind, quiet woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand. “She was a sweet lady and always had a smile when she waved at you from her porch,” said one neighbor. “This is just devastating for everyone who knew her.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash and are reviewing medical history and any available in-vehicle data. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no bystanders were injured.
As the community mourns Foster’s loss, her family is asking for privacy during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made public. Police urge drivers with known medical conditions to consult with doctors regularly to ensure safety on the road for themselves and others.
