MILTON, DE — A tragic car accident in Milton has claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman from Ellendale. Delaware State Police have identified the victim as Mary O’Bier, who died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, June 6.
The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Milton Ellendale Highway. According to police, a Chevrolet Suburban operated by Sussex County EMS, with its emergency lights activated, was heading westbound on the highway. At the same time, a Ford Bronco driven by O’Bier was traveling north on Mulberry Street and reportedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
Authorities say the Bronco entered the intersection directly in the path of the oncoming EMS vehicle. The Suburban struck the passenger side of O’Bier’s vehicle, causing it to spin out of control and crash into a nearby tree. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported O’Bier to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The paramedic driving the EMS vehicle, a 38-year-old woman, was also taken to the hospital. Thankfully, she suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. No patients were in the EMS vehicle at the time of the collision, and no other injuries were reported.
This tragic accident has left the Ellendale and Milton communities in mourning, with many expressing sadness over the sudden loss of a well-known local resident. O’Bier’s family and friends are now grieving as police continue their investigation into the crash.
