MASON, N.H. — A 37-year-old man from Mason, New Hampshire, was killed early Sunday morning in a tragic snowmobile accident. The victim, identified as Dejay Ducharme, was riding alone when his snowmobile veered off the trail and collided with a tree along Old County Road. The crash occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. and resulted in fatal injuries.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at around 2:14 a.m. following a 911 call that reported a serious snowmobile crash near 472 Old County Road. Bystanders were performing CPR on Ducharme when first responders arrived, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the crash was severe and that Ducharme’s injuries were not survivable.
According to officials from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, it is still unclear what caused the snowmobile to leave the trail. Investigators are looking into multiple possible factors, including speed, trail conditions, visibility, mechanical failure, and impairment. While snowmobiling in June is unusual, higher elevations and shaded wooded areas can still have conditions suitable for riding.
Ducharme was known in the local community as an experienced and passionate outdoor enthusiast. Friends said he was familiar with the area and often spent time exploring the trails near his home. News of his sudden death has left neighbors and loved ones stunned and heartbroken. Many described him as a kind, hardworking individual with a deep love for nature and motor sports.
“He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a hand,” said a longtime friend. “It’s hard to believe he’s gone. He lived life on his own terms and loved being out in the woods.” Social media has since been flooded with tributes, with many remembering Ducharme’s adventurous spirit and warm personality.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is continuing to investigate the crash. They are asking anyone who may have seen Ducharme riding earlier in the night or who has information about the incident to come forward. No foul play is suspected, but officials are committed to determining exactly what happened.
As the Mason community grieves this devastating loss, authorities remind riders to always prioritize safety, even in familiar areas. Funeral arrangements for Dejay Ducharme have not yet been announced.
