Miamisburg, OH – A 32-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a Dayton woman inside a Miamisburg home has been formally charged after a 13-hour manhunt led to his arrest. Authorities identified the suspect as Dametrius Turner, who now faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault.
The fatal shooting occurred on Wednesday, March 13, at approximately 9:27 p.m. when Miamisburg police responded to a home on Golden Arrow Court. A male resident of the house called 911, reporting that Turner had shot his girlfriend in the basement and fled the scene with a firearm. The caller left the house with his dog and called authorities from another location.
During police interviews, the witness stated he was in his bedroom when he heard what he initially thought were slapping sounds coming from the basement. Moments later, Turner allegedly came upstairs and admitted, “I messed up, and I need help.” The witness said he then heard five or six gunshots. Officers later found 52-year-old Leslie Ross in the basement lounge, shot five times and lying in a pool of blood. Another resident in the home, who was showering in the basement at the time, reported hearing Ross scream, “Don’t do it! No!” before the gunfire.
Police quickly identified Turner as the suspect and issued a public alert to locate him. After a 13-hour search, Turner was arrested at 12:16 p.m. Thursday in West Carrollton. A couple walking near South Elm Street and West Blossom Hill Road recognized him from social media and immediately called the police. Miamisburg Police Chief Mike Brem praised the community for their help, stating, “We can’t thank them enough for coming forward.”
Upon arrest, Turner was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine, but the murder weapon was not recovered. Police also noted that he no longer had the backpack and coat he was last seen wearing when he fled. Investigators confirmed that neither Turner nor Ross were permanent residents of the home but had been temporarily staying there. Ross was originally from Dayton, while Turner had lived in multiple states, including Indiana.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Miamisburg Police Department. Turner remains in custody without bond as he awaits trial.
