
MESQUITE, TX – A single-engine Cessna 525A Citation CJ2+ jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Mesquite Metro Airport on Thursday morning, killing the sole occupant, pilot Eric Forsythe. The fatal accident occurred around 7:33 a.m., just one mile from the airport.
According to flight data, the aircraft initially climbed to approximately 950 feet before suddenly entering a steep descent. The final recorded information showed the jet traveling at a speed of 196 knots while descending at a rate of 2,750 feet per minute before impact. The crash site was located in a wooded area near East Cartwright Road and Lawson Road.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly, extinguishing small fires caused by the crash. Fortunately, no buildings were damaged, and no other injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed that Forsythe was the only person onboard at the time of the accident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
