SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — A violent shooting that erupted from an illegal gun transaction has left three young men dead and four others facing serious criminal charges in what authorities are calling a devastating tragedy for the community.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, in the 400 block of Olde Greenwich Circle. Deputies with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire and discovered multiple victims at the scene, including individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Three young men were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Chase Feaster, 18, and Alonzo Goffney, 18, both of Spotsylvania County. A third victim, a 20-year-old male, has not yet been publicly identified as officials await confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Three others were injured during the shooting and were transported to nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not been disclosed. Investigators say the violence stemmed from an illegal firearm transaction that escalated into a robbery and shootout. As a result, four suspects have been charged: two 16-year-olds, one 17-year-old, and 18-year-old Jeremiah Upson. All face charges of Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Unlawful Assembly.
One of the 16-year-old suspects is still hospitalized due to a gunshot wound sustained during the altercation. Authorities say he will be taken into custody once released. The remaining three suspects are currently being held without bond.
According to Major Elizabeth Scott of the Sheriff’s Office, two of the suspects are from Spotsylvania County and the other two are from Caroline County.
“We are deeply thankful for the efforts of our law enforcement partners and the cooperation of the community during this incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” said Scott. She also commended detectives for quickly piecing together the complex chain of events.
In response to the incident, Fredericksburg City Public Schools initiated a two-hour delay on Wednesday, April 9, as a safety precaution. The investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to gather information. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is urged to contact the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
