DUNN COUNTY, WI – A 17-year-old Wisconsin girl is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly striking and killing a 54-year-old runner in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning. The teen, who is accused of driving while intoxicated, is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon for a bond hearing.
Authorities identified the victim as Ann M. Seidl, a resident of Eau Claire. The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7:15 a.m. reporting a body in a ditch along Dunn County Highway Y, between 330th and 370th Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found Seidl deceased with severe injuries. She had been wearing bright clothing and a reflective vest while running, ensuring she was visible to drivers.
Following an investigation, deputies located the suspected vehicle and arrested the 17-year-old driver. She is charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, hit-and-run resulting in death, and homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Authorities have not yet released her name due to her age.
Court records show that the teen was cited for underage drinking just weeks prior, on March 14, raising concerns about her driving habits leading up to the crash. Law enforcement officials are reviewing additional evidence to determine whether further charges may apply.
This incident has reignited concerns about the dangers of impaired driving, particularly among young drivers. Sheriff Kevin Bygd emphasized the tragedy of the situation, stating that Seidl had been following all safety guidelines, yet was still fatally struck. He urged drivers to remain vigilant and never get behind the wheel under the influence.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office.
