LORAIN, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after two people were found dead inside a Lorain residence late Saturday night. Officers with the Lorain Police Department were called to a home in the 200 block of West 29th Street just before 10 p.m. for a welfare check prompted by concerned family members.
When officers entered the residence, they discovered the bodies of 63-year-old Anthony Coonrod and 30-year-old Emily Simmons, both with apparent gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say preliminary evidence suggests the incident may have been a murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing.
At this time, authorities do not believe any additional suspects were involved. The relationship between Coonrod and Simmons has not been officially disclosed, and investigators have not said which of the two may have been the shooter. Officers are working to determine the events that led up to the fatal encounter.
The neighborhood, typically known for its quiet atmosphere, was stunned by the sudden tragedy. Police cordoned off the area as they collected forensic evidence and interviewed neighbors. Many residents expressed shock and sorrow, saying violent incidents like this are rare in their community.
In a statement released Sunday, the Lorain Police Department urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling 440-204-2105. Investigators say even small details could help them piece together a more complete picture of what occurred inside the home that evening.
Authorities say the investigation will include autopsies, forensic analysis, and interviews with relatives and acquaintances to better understand the circumstances of the case. No weapons have been confirmed as recovered, and no possible motive has yet been shared. As the community mourns the deaths of two residents, police stress that the evidence so far suggests the tragedy was an isolated incident.
