CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — A tragic crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Aundre Ewings of Fredericksburg, Virginia, on Tuesday evening along U.S. Route 301. The fatal collision occurred around 5 p.m. when a Chrysler 300 attempted to cross the highway from Holly Lane, pulling directly into the path of Ewings’ motorcycle.
Maryland State Police reported Ewings was traveling northbound on his 2005 Honda CBR-1000 when 31-year-old Tony Pattillo Jr. of Dale City, Virginia, failed to yield. The violent impact ejected Ewings from his bike, and despite rapid emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Pattillo sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting a thorough reconstruction of the accident. Investigators are examining road conditions, vehicle speeds, and visibility factors at the intersection. The case will be reviewed by the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed against Pattillo.
Friends and family remember Ewings as an avid motorcyclist and talented mechanic who often helped others with their bikes. “He had the most generous spirit and lived for the freedom of riding,” said childhood friend Jamal Carter. A growing memorial at the crash site features flowers, notes, and motorcycle parts honoring Ewings’ passion.
This incident marks the third fatal motorcycle crash on Route 301 this year, raising concerns about intersection safety. Community members are calling for improved signage and traffic controls at dangerous crossings along the busy corridor.
Authorities urge witnesses to contact Sgt. J. Zimmerman at (301) 392-1231. As the investigation continues, Ewings’ family prepares to lay their loved one to rest while seeking justice for what they believe was a preventable tragedy.
