MEMPHIS, TN — A Saturday morning shooting claimed the life of 26-year-old BankBred Tubb, marking another tragic incident in a city grappling with gun violence. Memphis Police Department officers discovered Tubb’s body at a residence on the 600 block of Whitney Avenue after responding to an 11:30 a.m. call.
Authorities confirmed Tubb sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate the shooting involved two suspects who fled in a dark-colored sedan, sparking an intensive manhunt across Shelby County. Crime scene technicians spent hours collecting shell casings and documenting ballistic evidence near the modest single-family home where the violence erupted.
“This appears targeted, not random,” said MPD Lt. Daniel Goodwin, noting detectives are tracing Tubb’s recent movements and associations. Neighbors reported hearing an argument followed by rapid gunfire, but no one witnessed the actual shooting. The suspects’ vehicle—possibly a Dodge Charger or similar model—was last seen speeding toward Jackson Avenue.
Tubb’s death adds to Memphis’ troubling homicide count, which has surpassed 200 cases this year. Community activists point to the Whitney Avenue corridor as an emerging hotspot, with three fatal shootings within a half-mile radius since January. A makeshift memorial of candles and liquor bottles now marks where Tubb fell, as relatives remember him as a devoted father working to turn his life around.
MPD’s Homicide Bureau urges anyone with surveillance footage or information about the dark-colored suspect vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH. As forensic analysts process evidence, Tubb’s family prepares funeral services while awaiting justice in a case that exemplifies Memphis’ persistent cycle of violence.
