
A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Route 10 in Randolph, New Jersey, claimed the lives of three adults and left two children injured on Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2025. The crash occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. at the intersection with Millbrook Avenue, and authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The crash involved four vehicles, including a school minivan, which was carrying both students and employees at the time. The preliminary investigation confirmed that three adults— Bertha Castaneda, 67, of Dover; Diane Goetz, 71, of Randolph; and Maria Z. Figueroa, 58, of Wharton—died as a result of the collision. Castaneda and Figueroa were traveling in the school vehicle for P.G. Chambers, a special needs school in Cedar Knolls. Two children were also injured in the crash and have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. In addition to the fatalities, two adults were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the crash is being handled by the Randolph Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI Unit. At this time, authorities have not released further details about the cause of the accident, and the investigation remains ongoing. They have assured the public that more information will be provided as appropriate.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, describing the incident as a “horrible tragedy” for the local community and beyond. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives, and with those whose lives will undoubtedly be impacted by their loss,” said Carroll. He also urged residents to be mindful of what they share online regarding the incident, as it could be deeply traumatic for those affected.
