CANTON, Ohio — A tragic car accident at the intersection of 4th Street NW and Wertz Avenue NW claimed the lives of two local residents late Saturday evening, June 7. The Canton Police Department confirmed that the crash happened around 9:30 p.m., involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Nissan Altima.
According to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard, the Volkswagen Golf was traveling northbound on Wertz Avenue NW at a “very high rate of speed” when it collided with the Nissan Altima. The Altima was heading southbound and attempting to make a left turn onto 4th Street NW at the time of the crash. The impact was severe, leading to fatal injuries for both drivers.
Emergency responders rushed to the location quickly but were unable to save Siple, who suffered critical injuries from the collision.

Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Wise passed away from her injuries later that night. Authorities have not released details about possible passengers or the role of alcohol or drugs in the crash at this time.
The Canton Metro Crash Team is now conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses to determine the exact cause of the accident. Chief Gabbard urged the public to come forward if they have any information that could help clarify what happened.
