FLORIDA, N.Y. — A Gloversville woman has died following a two-vehicle collision in the town of Florida, Montgomery County, on Tuesday evening. Authorities have identified the victim as 62-year-old Colleen Cahill. The crash occurred at the intersection of State Highway 161 and Fort Hunter Road and remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene shortly after the collision was reported. They found an SUV overturned on its side and a pickup truck heavily damaged. Emergency responders were already on-site treating victims. The SUV’s passenger was unharmed, but the driver, Cahill, had to be extricated by firefighters. She was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
All three occupants of the pickup truck required extrication. Two were transported by ground ambulance to Albany Medical Center, while a third, who sustained serious injuries, was airlifted to the same facility. Their identities and current conditions have not been publicly released. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the crash, and no contributing factors such as speed or impairment have been confirmed.
Photos from the scene showed extensive damage to both vehicles. Fire crews used hydraulic rescue tools to access and free the occupants. Multiple emergency agencies responded, including local fire departments, ambulance services, and a medical helicopter team. The intersection where the crash occurred is a rural junction with a history of moderate traffic and limited visibility, which may be evaluated as part of the investigation.
Colleen Cahill’s death has deeply affected the Gloversville community, where she was known as a kind and dependable long-time resident. Friends and neighbors have expressed their grief and shared condolences as they await details on funeral arrangements. Her tragic death highlights the devastating consequences of roadway collisions and the fragility of everyday travel.
Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and analyze vehicle data in the coming days. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward. As the community mourns Cahill’s loss and prays for the recovery of the injured, officials continue working to determine exactly what happened on that rural Montgomery County road.
