A heartbreaking accident at Campbell Hall School in Studio City has claimed the life of 15-year-old Cosmo Silverman, authorities confirmed on Saturday. The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon around 3:10 p.m., when Cosmo was struck in the school’s parking lot, located in the 4500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the teenager was hit while attempting to walk between a Rivian SUV and another vehicle. The SUV unexpectedly moved forward, pinning Cosmo in the tight space between the cars. His father, believed to be waiting to pick him up, was nearby when the tragic event unfolded. Cosmo was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but sadly died from his injuries, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed.
LAPD Lieutenant Matthew Bielski explained that the reason the SUV moved is still under investigation. Surveillance footage appears to show three vehicles involved in a minor collision in the parking lot. A canopy had been set up between two of the cars, and Cosmo was standing in that area when he was hit. Bielski emphasized that the crash appears to be a tragic accident, and no citations or arrests have been made.
Another teenage boy, unrelated to Cosmo, suffered minor injuries in the same incident. He was treated at the scene and did not need to be hospitalized. Additionally, five other individuals, including two minors and three adults, were evaluated by emergency crews. Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, but no further details were released.
In response to the tragedy, Campbell Hall School announced it would close Thursday and Friday to allow time for grieving. A letter was sent to parents, and the school offered grief counseling for students and families. Counselors were made available in the school gym from 10 a.m. to noon, helping the tight-knit community begin to process the sudden loss.
The tragic death of Cosmo Silverman has deeply affected classmates, faculty, and parents alike. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life taken far too soon in what appears to be a heartbreaking and unforeseeable accident.
