According to Lieutenant Jeffrey Keenum, officers responded to reports of a shooting and vehicle crash at approximately 10:58 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. Upon arrival, they discovered a wrecked vehicle and its driver, 18-year-old Daniel Hernandez, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, Hernandez tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Following a swift investigation, authorities identified and arrested 19-year-old Keith Demetrius Syas of Lake Charles. Syas has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Detectives are now working to determine the exact location of the shooting and the sequence of events that led to the tragic incident.
