SEYMOUR, Conn. — A tragic rollover crash on Route 8 claimed the life of a Beacon Falls man on Thursday evening, according to the Connecticut State Police. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. near Exit 18 in the southbound lanes of the highway.
Authorities have identified the victim as Daniel Popiolek, who was driving a 2010 Subaru Legacy at the time of the crash. Police say Popiolek was traveling in the left lane of two when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the highway, rolled over, and struck a light pole before coming to a stop.
According to police reports, Popiolek was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was the only person in the car at the time. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported him to Waterbury Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
At this time, it is unclear what caused Popiolek to lose control of his vehicle. Investigators are working to determine whether speed, mechanical issues, or road conditions played a role in the fatal accident. The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to police.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they piece together the moments leading up to the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information — especially those with dashboard camera footage — is urged to contact Trooper Patrick Miko at the Troop I barracks in Bethany. He can be reached by phone at 203-393-4200 or via email at Patrick.Miko@ct.gov.
Popiolek’s sudden death has left the community of Beacon Falls in mourning. Police are reminding all drivers to stay alert, wear seatbelts, and exercise caution on the road, especially as summer traffic and changing weather conditions can increase the risk of serious accidents.
