WICHITA, KS – A Wichita woman has been arrested in connection with the tragic shooting death of 7-year-old Davion Gunter. Authorities confirmed that 25-year-old Tasha Diane Dillard was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated child endangerment. She remains in the Sedgwick County Jail as the investigation continues.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. on March 17 in the 3700 block of East Ross Parkway. Officers with the Wichita Police Department (WPD) responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting and arrived to find Davion suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. Despite paramedics’ efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities revealed that this was not the first time Davion had been a victim of gun violence. At the age of three, he survived a separate shooting when he was struck by a bullet fired by his uncle. Investigators have not confirmed whether there is any connection between the two incidents.
At the time of the shooting, multiple adults and seven other children were inside the home, according to WPD Captain Aron Moses. Following the incident, all children present were removed from the residence and placed into protective custody. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether additional charges will be filed.
Investigators have not yet disclosed who fired the fatal shot or the events leading up to the tragedy. Authorities are conducting interviews and gathering evidence to piece together what happened that night. The case remains under active investigation by WPD.
Officials urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact Wichita Police at 911 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. Further details may be released as the investigation continues.
