SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman found deceased in Woodlawn Lake as 61-year-old Delilah Jimenez and ruled her death an accidental drowning. The tragic discovery was made Tuesday morning when a jogger spotted an object floating in the water and alerted authorities.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 8:50 a.m. and recovered Jimenez’s body from the lake. San Antonio Park Police noted she appeared to have been in the water for “a while” before being discovered. Investigators found no immediate signs of foul play or trauma.
While the medical examiner confirmed drowning as the cause of death, the circumstances leading to Jimenez entering the water remain unclear. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to reconstruct her final movements. Neighbors described Jimenez as a frequent visitor to the park who often walked near the lake in the evenings.
The case has raised questions about safety measures around the popular recreation area. Woodlawn Lake Park features walking trails and a 1.5-mile loop around the water, but lacks safety barriers along most of its shoreline. City officials confirmed the park’s lighting was functional at the time of the incident.
Jimenez’s family has been notified of her passing. A small memorial with flowers and candles has appeared near the lake’s edge where she was found. The medical examiner’s office may conduct additional tests as part of their standard protocol before closing the case.
