FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — A young man was fatally shot late Saturday night while traveling on Interstate 70 in Frederick County, just after attending an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds. Maryland State Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea of Silver Spring. The tragic shooting has left the community shaken and investigators searching for answers.
The incident happened shortly before midnight on June 14, when troopers responded to a report of gunfire in the 600 block of Lakeview Drive. When police arrived, they found a pickup truck with six occupants. Alvarado Urrea, one of the passengers, had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The truck had been traveling eastbound on I-70 when someone in another vehicle began firing at them.
According to authorities, the group had just left an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds when the shooting occurred. The shots are believed to have come from a separate, unidentified vehicle on the highway. Alongside the fatality, the driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while another passenger was treated at the scene and declined further medical care.
