Zion, IL – June 13, 2025 — A tragic incident in the early hours of Thursday morning has left the Zion community reeling after a young couple was found dead in what authorities suspect to be a murder-suicide. The victims, both 24 years old, were discovered with gunshot wounds inside a home on the 3400 block of Clover Lane.
According to the Zion Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:12 a.m. on June 12. When police and fire-rescue personnel arrived at the residence, they found a man and a woman unresponsive with serious gunshot injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
On Friday, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the deceased as Eleric Lyon of Beach Park and Jacob Christ of Zion. An autopsy revealed that Lyon suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Christ, who lived at the residence, also died from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case is currently being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide, pending final forensic results.
Detective Lieutenant Paul Kehrli of the Zion Police Department confirmed that the pair were in a relationship. Investigators are working with the Lake County Major Crime Task Force to determine what may have led to the fatal shooting. Authorities have not disclosed any motive, and friends of the couple say there were no public signs of trouble between them prior to the tragedy.
Neighbors and loved ones have expressed deep sorrow and disbelief. Eleric Lyon is being remembered as a kind, caring young woman who had a bright future ahead. Friends described her as full of life and warmth, with many sharing memories and condolences on social media. Jacob Christ was reportedly a longtime resident of the area, and his death has also left many stunned.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The community is grappling with the sudden loss of two young lives and the painful reality of violence within relationships. Support services have been made available to friends, family members, and anyone impacted by the tragedy, as Zion mourns and searches for healing in the aftermath of this devastating event.
