DODGE COUNTY, WI — A young man from Mayville lost his life Saturday afternoon after falling from a bluff at Ledge County Park, a popular nature spot in Dodge County. Authorities have identified the victim as 21-year-old Felix Mata Eusebio.
The tragic incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on June 14. According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Eusebio was visiting the park with two companions. While walking along one of the park’s scenic trails, he reportedly stopped to take a photo from a rocky ledge. While posing, Eusebio lost his balance and fell approximately 40 feet down a steep slope lined with rocks and uneven terrain.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene. Paramedics and a medical helicopter were dispatched, but unfortunately, Eusebio was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was not transported to a hospital. Authorities have stated that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident, but emphasized that the fall appeared to be unintentional.
Ledge County Park is known for its elevated views, forested paths, and rocky outcroppings. While the area offers beautiful scenery and is a favorite spot for hikers and photographers, it also presents risks, especially near unguarded ledges. Officials regularly urge visitors to exercise caution while navigating the more dangerous parts of the park, particularly if they are consuming alcohol or distracted.
The sheriff’s office has not released further details about what led to the fall, but no foul play is suspected. The incident remains under investigation, with authorities reviewing all circumstances surrounding the accident. No citations or charges have been issued in relation to the event.
Eusebio’s death has deeply impacted the Mayville community. He is being remembered as a bright and adventurous young man whose life was cut short far too soon. Friends and family have begun sharing memories and tributes, with many expressing heartbreak over the sudden loss. Community members are also extending their support to Eusebio’s loved ones during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues, local officials may evaluate whether additional safety measures are needed at the park. In the meantime, they are reminding visitors to stay alert, avoid risky behavior near ledges, and prioritize safety when enjoying natural areas.
