KILLEEN, Texas — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man early Wednesday morning in a residential neighborhood. The victim, identified as Gabriel Lee Garza, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 2900 block of Cantabrian Drive just before 2 a.m. on May 28.
Killeen police responded to reports of a shooting at 1:42 a.m. and discovered Garza critically injured at the scene. Emergency responders administered medical aid and transported him to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:29 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James. An autopsy will be conducted at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas to determine the official cause of death.
Investigators say Garza had arranged to meet with a small group of individuals outside the residence where the shooting occurred. At some point during the meeting, shots were fired, striking Garza multiple times. Police believe the people involved were not strangers to the victim and suspect a prior relationship may have played a role, though no motive has been confirmed.
No arrests have been made, and authorities have not released descriptions of potential suspects. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses in an effort to identify those responsible.
