WEST JORDAN, Utah — A 23-year-old motorcyclist died after a hit-and-run collision Tuesday night at the intersection of 8600 South and Redwood Road. Garrett Randall Pace succumbed to his injuries hours after being struck by a fleeing SUV around 8:30 p.m., according to West Jordan Police.
Authorities describe the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored 2003-2006 Chevrolet or GMC SUV with significant passenger-side damage. Witnesses reported the driver fled west on Gardner Lane before turning north onto 3200 West Haun Drive. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to identify the vehicle.
Pace, an electrician and passionate rider, was training for a cross-country motorcycle trip this summer. “Garrett lived for the open road,” said friend Tyler Morrison. “He had this contagious excitement about his upcoming adventure.” A makeshift memorial with flowers and motorcycle gear has appeared at the crash site.
The incident marks West Jordan’s third fatal hit-and-run this year. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even minor details could break the case. “Someone knows something,” said Detective Dirk Petersen. “We need the community’s help to get justice for Garrett.”
Pace’s family has established a memorial fund to cover funeral expenses. A candlelight vigil is planned for Friday evening at the crash site, where friends will honor the young rider’s adventurous spirit.
