LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Police have arrested a fourth suspect, a 15-year-old male, in connection with Friday night’s mass shooting at Young Park that left three dead and 15 injured. The teen joins three others already in custody – 20-year-old Tomas Rivas-Hidalgo and two 17-year-olds – all facing three counts of murder each.
Tomas Rivas-Hidalgo, 20 (held without bond at Doña Ana County Detention Center)
Adrian Rivas-Hidalgo, 17
Gustavo Dominguez, 17
(All minors remanded to juvenile detention facilities)
The victims were identified as Andrew Madrid, 16; Jason Gomez, 18; and Dominick Estrada, 19. Madrid and Gomez died at the scene, while Estrada succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Fifteen other victims between ages 16-36 suffered gunshot wounds, with seven requiring transfer to El Paso hospitals for advanced care.
Investigators have determined all approximately 60 shell casings recovered at the scene came from handguns, dispelling social media rumors about an AR-style rifle being involved. Police confirmed Gabriel Rickman, whose photo with a rifle circulated online, has been cleared of any connection to the crime.
The shooting erupted around 10 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Young Park at 850 S. Walnut Street during what witnesses described as a large gathering. Emergency responders found multiple victims with gunshot wounds scattered throughout the area.
Authorities from multiple agencies including the FBI, ATF and New Mexico State Police continue investigating. Young Park remains closed as forensic teams process evidence, with nearby roads still blocked to traffic.
Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, especially those who may have video or photos from the scene. Counseling services are being offered to affected community members as Las Cruces grapples with one of its worst outbreaks of gun violence in recent years.
This remains an active investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
