The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash in Homestead Meadows South as 49-year-old Jason Owens. The tragic accident occurred Wednesday evening and remains under investigation by law enforcement authorities.
According to officials, the crash took place around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Krag Street and Santiesteban Lane. Preliminary findings from the Sheriff’s Special Traffic Investigators indicate that a sedan traveling east on Santiesteban Lane failed to yield at a posted stop sign. As the vehicle entered the intersection, it collided with a motorcycle traveling north on Krag Street, driven by Owens.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene and transported Owens to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Owens succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. No other injuries were reported in the crash, and the driver of the sedan remained at the scene to cooperate with authorities.
At this time, the identity of the sedan’s driver has not been released. Investigators are still working to determine whether speed, distraction, or impairment contributed to the crash. No charges have been announced, and the Sheriff’s Office has not indicated whether any citations have been issued.
Residents of Homestead Meadows South expressed concern over the safety of the intersection, which they say has seen multiple near-misses in recent months. “People just don’t stop at that sign,” said one neighbor. “It’s only a matter of time before something tragic like this happens, and now it has.” Calls for improved signage or traffic lights have resurfaced in the wake of Owens’ death.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that could aid the investigation to come forward. They are also reminding drivers to always obey traffic signs and remain alert, especially in areas where motorcycles or other smaller vehicles are present.
Jason Owens is being remembered by friends and family as a kind and passionate individual who enjoyed riding motorcycles. As the investigation continues, the community is mourning the sudden loss and advocating for safer roads to prevent further tragedies.
