A Temple woman has died following a tragic accident involving a bicycle and a vehicle earlier this week. Jeannette Kay Young, 66, passed away on Wednesday from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred on Sunday, June 1, according to the Temple Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:21 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision at the intersection of the 1100 block of Research Parkway and the 6600 block of Prairie View Road. When first responders arrived, they found bystanders attempting to aid Young before emergency medical personnel took over life-saving efforts.
Preliminary findings suggest that Young, who was traveling eastbound on a bicycle, may have failed to stop at a posted stop sign. As a result, she was struck by a southbound vehicle traveling through the intersection. The impact left her in critical condition, and she was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Temple Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and launched a full investigation into the crash. The driver of the vehicle remained at the location and cooperated with officers during questioning. Authorities have not reported any signs of impairment or wrongdoing by the driver at this stage of the investigation.
The incident has prompted an outpouring of condolences from the community, as family and friends mourn the sudden loss of Kay Young. A longtime Temple resident, she is remembered for her kindness and active lifestyle. Her tragic passing underscores the need for heightened awareness and caution at traffic intersections, especially involving bicyclists and vehicles.
As the investigation continues, the Temple Police Department is encouraging anyone with additional information about the accident to come forward. Individuals can contact the department directly at 254-298-5500. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477.
Authorities have not released any further updates at this time. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine all contributing factors in the fatal collision.
