PHILADELPHIA — A horrific crash on Interstate 95 Friday night killed two New Jersey brothers and critically injured two others when their car plunged off an overpass in the city’s Port Richmond section. The victims were identified as Joshua Davis, 22, of Cranbury, and Aaron Davis, 23, of East Windsor, according to the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
The tragedy occurred around 8:30 p.m. on March 22 when the brothers’ Mazda, reportedly traveling at high speed, careened through a guardrail and fell 20-30 feet onto Castor Avenue below. Witnesses told investigators the vehicle may have been street racing with a Dodge Challenger moments before the crash. Joshua and Aaron, rear passengers, were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
Their 18-year-old twin brothers, Benjamin and Nathaniel Davis, were hospitalized in critical condition following the wreck. A puppy traveling with them also died in the crash. Pennsylvania State Police are analyzing surveillance footage and vehicle data while seeking witnesses to confirm if illegal racing caused the deadly plunge.
The Davis family is reeling from the sudden loss as community members organize meal trains and fundraisers to support medical expenses for the surviving brothers. “They were inseparable – this is every parent’s worst nightmare,” said a family friend outside the Davis home in East Windsor.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the racing incident or the unidentified Dodge Challenger to contact Philadelphia Police. The crash has renewed calls for increased highway patrols to combat street racing along I-95’s dangerous curves.
