GRANITE BAY, CA — Authorities have identified two teenagers killed in a tragic early morning crash in Granite Bay as 19-year-old Kai Gini and 18-year-old Keven Garcia. The deadly accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. Sunday on Eureka Road, just east of Bridle Path Lane, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The teens were inside a 2022 BMW M3 reportedly traveling at high speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a tree, and came to a stop. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but both young men were pronounced dead by fire personnel upon arrival.
Investigators shut down a section of Eureka Road for several hours to gather evidence and piece together the cause of the crash. CHP officials have stated that driving under the influence is suspected as a potential factor, though it remains unclear which of the teens was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
The CHP is urging anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward. Individuals can contact the CHP Auburn office at 916-663-3344 to assist in the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to confirm whether alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed were involved, and toxicology reports are pending.
News of the crash has devastated the local community, with friends, family, and classmates mourning the sudden loss of two young lives. Social media has since filled with tributes remembering Gini and Garcia as bright, kind-hearted individuals with promising futures.
As the investigation continues, officials are also using the tragic incident to remind the public—especially young drivers—about the dangers of impaired and reckless driving. The community hopes this heartbreaking loss will lead to greater awareness and prevention efforts to avoid similar tragedies.
