LAKE COUNTY, FL – A tragic car accident early Sunday morning claimed the lives of three women and left another in critical condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The fatal crash occurred on State Road 19 near Saint Florian Lane when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Authorities report that a 30-year-old woman from Mount Dora was behind the wheel of a 2024 Jeep Cherokee, traveling northbound. As she approached a left-hand curve, she failed to navigate the turn, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. The Jeep struck a pole and flipped multiple times, resulting in catastrophic damage.
Two of the vehicle’s occupants, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash also left two passengers critically injured, both of whom were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. Sadly, one of the injured passengers later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to three.
The victims have been identified as Tavia Pew, Kayy Lashay, and Kaneisha Lewis. The only survivor, a 26-year-old woman from Eustis, remains hospitalized in critical condition. Officials have not released her name as she continues to fight for her life.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether speed, impairment, or other factors played a role in the crash. Residents familiar with the area note that curved roads can be particularly dangerous, especially at high speeds or in low-visibility conditions.
This devastating accident serves as a painful reminder of the dangers of roadway mishaps, particularly on curved and high-speed roads. The Florida Highway Patrol urges drivers to remain alert, observe speed limits, and exercise caution when approaching turns to prevent further tragedies. As the investigation continues, family and friends of the victims are left mourning the heartbreaking loss of three young lives.
