Peoria, IL – June 5, 2025 — Authorities have identified the young woman killed in a downtown Peoria shooting as 18-year-old Kenadee Wallenfang of Pekin. The fatal incident occurred Tuesday afternoon and has left two communities grieving the sudden loss of a promising young life.
The shooting happened around 3:19 p.m. on the 100 block of SW Water Street, near Peoria’s busy riverfront area. Wallenfang was critically injured and rushed to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. Despite receiving emergency care and being admitted to the intensive care unit, her injuries were too severe. She was declared brain dead at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
