WEXFORD COUNTY, MI — Authorities in Wexford County are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Cherry Grove Township. The Wexford County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to the scene at approximately 6:18 a.m. after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash on East M-115 Highway near the intersection of West Division Street.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a pedestrian had been struck by a passing vehicle. A preliminary investigation determined that a 26-year-old man from Marion was traveling northwest on E. M-115 when his vehicle collided with a pedestrian walking in the roadway. The pedestrian, identified as 41-year-old Kevin Hoover of Cadillac, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Multiple agencies responded to assist, including the Selma Township Fire Department, Cherry Grove Township Fire Department, Cadillac City Police, and the Michigan State Police. Authorities closed a portion of E. M-115 from West Division Street to North Boulevard for approximately three hours while conducting their investigation and clearing the scene.
Investigators have stated that neither excessive speed nor alcohol are believed to have played a role in the crash. However, the circumstances leading up to the incident remain under review. Authorities are working to determine why Hoover was walking in the roadway and whether visibility or other factors contributed to the collision.
Officials are urging anyone with additional information regarding the crash to contact the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office. The tragic loss of Kevin Hoover has left the Cadillac community in mourning, and friends and family are remembering him as a cherished member of the community.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of pedestrian safety and the need for vigilance on both sides of the road. Authorities encourage drivers to remain alert, especially in low-visibility conditions, and pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and sidewalks whenever possible.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues. The community is coming together to support Hoover’s family during this difficult time.
