SOUTH RIDING, VA – Authorities have identified 18-year-old Khalid Al Rakan of Chantilly as the victim in a deadly two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon in South Riding. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to the scene around 2:15 p.m. on June 6 at the intersection of Tall Cedars Parkway and South Riding Boulevard.
The crash involved a Volkswagen Jetta and a Nissan Quest. According to officials, Al Rakan was driving the Jetta when the vehicles collided at the intersection. Both Al Rakan and his front-seat passenger were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, Al Rakan later died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Nissan Quest was treated on scene and did not require further medical attention. No other injuries were reported. Investigators have not released additional details about the other driver or the events immediately leading up to the crash.
Preliminary findings suggest that speed likely played a significant role in the collision. However, authorities have stated that there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
The LCSO is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward. Witnesses are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (703) 777-1021. Investigators are reviewing evidence, including potential surveillance footage and vehicle data, to understand exactly what happened.
