PITTSBURGH — A 38-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday morning inside a Northview Heights home, sparking a police investigation. The victim, identified as Laron Harrison, was found with multiple gunshot wounds just before 1 a.m. on the 100 block of Hazlett Street. Police were alerted to the gunfire through a ShotSpotter notification, a system designed to detect and report the sound of gunshots.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Harrison inside the residence with several gunshot wounds to his back. Emergency crews attempted to assist, but Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene. The home was quickly secured as detectives began gathering evidence and speaking with anyone nearby who may have heard or seen something unusual.
Investigators with the Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit are now leading the case. They are reviewing security camera footage from the area, hoping to find clues that could lead them to the shooter. At this time, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been named publicly. Police have also not released any information regarding a possible motive.
So far, authorities have remained tight-lipped about the details of what may have happened inside the home before the shooting. It is not yet clear if Harrison lived at the residence or was visiting someone there. Police have not said if there were any witnesses inside the home during the shooting.
The incident has left residents in the Northview Heights neighborhood shaken. Some neighbors say they were woken up by the sound of sirens and flashing lights. Others expressed concern about the continued violence in the area and called for more community support and police presence to keep neighborhoods safe.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact them. Tips can be given anonymously, and investigators say even the smallest detail could help move the case forward. As the search for answers continues, the community mourns the loss of another life to gun violence and hopes justice will be served soon.
