LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A high-speed police chase ended in tragedy this week, claiming the life of Laterrika Woods, sister of Memphis rapper Big Boogie, and leaving her best friend with life-altering injuries. The fatal incident occurred when officers allegedly made contact with the fleeing SUV, causing it to roll multiple times.
Woods, a young mother, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her best friend and passenger, Taricaa Lashay, survived but suffered catastrophic injuries including the loss of an arm. The driver, identified as Kizzle Consistent FlyGuy, claims he was attempting to pull over when the collision occurred. A fourth occupant’s condition remains unknown as authorities continue investigating.
The pursuit has sparked immediate outcry over police chase protocols, with community leaders questioning whether the risks justified the pursuit. “This is another preventable tragedy that’s left a child motherless,” said activist Derrick Johnson of the Arkansas Justice Coalition. “We need immediate policy reviews.”
Woods’ famous brother, Big Boogie (real name Javonte Woods), has not yet made a public statement. Family members confirmed the 24-year-old victim leaves behind a 5-year-old son. A memorial fund has been established to support the child’s future.
Arkansas State Police, who are leading the investigation, have not released the pursuit location or confirmed the officers’ actions. Body camera footage is currently under review. The department promises a full transparency within 30 days per new state guidelines.
As the community mourns, civil rights attorneys warn this incident may join a growing list of wrongful death lawsuits against Arkansas law enforcement. Vigils are planned in both Little Rock and Memphis this weekend to honor Woods’ memory.
