McDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. — A fatal car crash early Saturday morning has claimed the life of 60-year-old Lisa Lazier, a longtime resident of Thomson, according to McDuffie County Coroner Paul Johnson. The accident occurred at approximately 6:18 a.m. on June 7 in the 1400 block of Cobham Road, a rural area just outside the Thomson city limits. Lazier was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound when her vehicle was struck head-on by a westbound SUV. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the other driver.
Emergency responders arrived on scene shortly after the collision. Despite life-saving efforts, Lazier was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:53 a.m. by the McDuffie County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the SUV was injured and transported to a local hospital. Their condition has not been made public.
The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident. Officials have not confirmed whether factors such as speed, distracted driving, or impairment were involved. Investigators are working to reconstruct the scene and gather statements from potential witnesses.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Lisa Lazier later this week as part of the ongoing investigation. The findings may help determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision and whether any charges will be filed against the other driver.
The loss of Lisa Lazier has deeply affected the Thomson community. Friends and neighbors describe her as a kind-hearted and dependable woman who was always willing to lend a hand. “Lisa was loved by everyone who knew her,” said a family friend. “This is a devastating loss for all of us.”
Local authorities are urging drivers to use caution, especially on rural roads like Cobham Road, which can be narrow and have limited visibility in the early morning hours. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a valued member and awaits answers about what caused this tragic crash.
