
CHICAGO, IL – A woman has died from injuries sustained after jumping from a third-floor apartment window while trying to escape a violent home invasion in South Chicago.
The incident occurred on Saturday, March 16, 2025, around 5:30 p.m. when 20-year-old Mariah Ivy and a 21-year-old man were inside an apartment on the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue. According to police, an unidentified suspect forced entry into the residence and opened fire on both individuals.
In a desperate attempt to escape the attack, Ivy and the male victim jumped from the third-story window. Ivy suffered severe blunt force trauma and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday, March 18.
The male victim sustained serious injuries to both legs and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he remains in serious condition. Authorities have not released further details about his current condition or any potential connection to the suspect.
As of now, no suspects are in custody, and police have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack. Detectives from the Chicago Police Department are actively investigating the case, reviewing surveillance footage, and speaking with potential witnesses.
