GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle late Monday night while attempting to cross Harrison Avenue. Authorities have identified the victim as 56-year-old Matthew Fry, a Cincinnati resident.
The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. in the 6300 block of Harrison Avenue, according to the Green Township Police Department. Investigators say Fry was crossing the street westbound but was not in a marked crosswalk at the time. He was hit by a Hyundai Santa Fe, leading to severe injuries.
Emergency personnel from Green Township EMS responded swiftly to the scene and transported Fry to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, Fry was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Police noted that early findings suggest speed and driver impairment did not contribute to the crash. The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and has been cooperating fully with the investigation, authorities confirmed.
The incident remains under active investigation as officers continue to collect evidence, examine the crash site, and speak with potential witnesses. The Green Township Police Department is urging anyone who saw the incident or has relevant information to contact its Traffic Unit at 513-574-0007.
The tragic loss of Fry has left the community in mourning and brought renewed attention to pedestrian safety, especially in areas lacking designated crosswalks. Officials emphasize the importance of increased awareness for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly during nighttime hours and in poorly lit areas.
