POLKTON, N.C. — A 6-year-old girl was found dead Wednesday morning in what authorities describe as a brutal murder-suicide attempt by her own father. Mianna Roach was abducted at gunpoint from her home around 3 a.m. by her father, 32-year-old Michael Roach, according to the Anson County Sheriff’s Office.
The child’s mother immediately alerted authorities when she discovered both her daughter and their vehicle missing. After a frantic five-hour search, deputies located the crashed car along a rural road. Tragically, Mianna was found inside with a fatal gunshot wound. Investigators believe she may have been killed hours before the crash occurred.
Michael Roach was discovered in the vehicle with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was airlifted to a regional trauma center where he remains in critical condition under police guard. Sheriff’s deputies have secured the crime scene as the SBI processes forensic evidence.
“This is the most heartbreaking case I’ve encountered in my career,” said Anson County Sheriff Landric Reid. Neighbors described Mianna as a vibrant first-grader who loved art and dance. A makeshift memorial of teddy bears and flowers continues growing outside her home.
Court records show no history of domestic violence or custody disputes between the parents, leaving investigators searching for a motive. The sheriff’s office confirms charges will be filed as soon as medically possible.
The tragedy has shaken the small community of Polkton, with local schools offering counseling services. A vigil is planned for Friday evening as residents struggle to comprehend the senseless violence against an innocent child.
