BOULDER, Colo. — Authorities have identified Mohamed Soliman as the suspect in a violent terror attack that injured multiple people during a peaceful pro-Israel event Sunday afternoon at the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
According to investigators, Soliman disguised himself as a landscaper and threw Molotov cocktails at participants of a solidarity walk organized by Run For Their Lives, a group advocating for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. The attack took place near the Boulder County Courthouse, at 13th and Pearl Streets, and caused serious injuries, including to children. Several victims were treated at the scene and transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.
Federal and local authorities, including the FBI and Boulder Police, responded within minutes. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as flames erupted in the crowd. Photographs showed at least one individual on a stretcher and visible fire damage in front of the courthouse. FBI Director Kash Patel labeled the incident a “targeted terror attack,” and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed the agency’s active involvement, calling it a “deliberate act of terrorism.”
The event began around 1:00 p.m. at Pearl Street and 8th Street, with participants walking through the mall before pausing at the courthouse for a moment of reflection. Organizers emphasized the event was a peaceful walk, not a protest. The suspect launched his attack as the group gathered in front of the courthouse.
Police have since cordoned off a large section of Pearl Street, including the 1200, 1300, and 1400 blocks between Walnut and Pine Streets. At 3:08 p.m., Boulder Police issued an advisory urging the public to “PLEASE AVOID THIS AREA.” Authorities are also examining a vehicle of interest possibly connected to Soliman, though no additional suspects have been confirmed at this time.
Witness-submitted images show Soliman shirtless and being detained by police shortly after the incident. As of Sunday evening, no motive has been officially released. The FBI and Boulder Police are asking anyone with information to contact them as the investigation remains active. Officials say more updates will follow as additional evidence is reviewed and interviews are conducted.
