HAMPTON, Va. — A young woman was fatally shot early Tuesday morning outside a Hampton hotel, and police are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible. The incident has left the community shaken and a family grieving the sudden and tragic loss.
According to the Hampton Police Division, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Quality Inn on West Mercury Boulevard at approximately 12:09 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered a man and a woman suffering from serious gunshot wounds near the hotel entrance. Sadly, around 2:20 a.m., the female victim succumbed to her injuries. On Thursday, police identified her as 24-year-old Monica Rodriguez of Newport News. The male victim, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized, but authorities have not provided an update on his condition.
Investigators say the shooting occurred while the victims were walking toward their hotel room.
