
COSTA MESA, Calif. — A 20-year-old woman from Huntington Beach was shot and killed late Monday night in a residential neighborhood in Costa Mesa. Police have identified the victim as Monserrat Colorado and are urging the public to assist with information as the investigation continues.
The shooting occurred around 11:10 p.m. on June 2 in the 1500 block of Lukup Lane. Costa Mesa Police received several 911 calls reporting gunshots and a person down on the sidewalk. Officers responded quickly and found Colorado suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They immediately began administering emergency aid until paramedics from Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue arrived and took over.
Colorado was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, she was later pronounced dead. Her identity was initially withheld as investigators notified family members and worked to secure the scene. Authorities have now confirmed her as the victim in this tragic case.
Preliminary information suggests that Colorado may have known her attacker. However, no suspect has been identified or arrested at this time. Police have not released any description of the suspect or details regarding a possible motive. The Costa Mesa Police Department says the investigation remains active, with detectives following multiple leads.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” said a CMPD spokesperson. “We are committed to finding justice for the victim and her family, and we ask the public to come forward with any information that may help our efforts.” Officers are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and canvassing the area for witnesses who may have seen or heard anything unusual that night.
