MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. — A tragic collision involving an SUV and a four-wheeler has left two people dead and another injured in McCreary County. The accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, on U.S. Highway 27 in the Parker’s Lake area, according to the McCreary County Coroner’s Office. Officials say the crash unfolded when the SUV reportedly crossed the center line to avoid hitting another vehicle. In the process, it side-swiped a four-wheeler that was traveling along the side of the road.
The force of the collision caused the SUV to flip and crash into the nearby woods, while the ATV rider was thrown into a ditch. The four-wheeler operator, identified as Roger Dale Stanton of Parker’s Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Stanton, a local resident, was well known in the area and his sudden death has left the community in mourning.
In addition to Stanton, a female passenger in the SUV also died as a result of the accident. She has been identified as 77-year-old Linda Joyce Moncries. Emergency personnel responded quickly, but Moncries was pronounced dead at the scene. A male occupant of the SUV was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released at this time.
The Kentucky State Police are leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to determine the exact sequence of events and whether any additional factors may have contributed to the deadly crash. No charges have been filed at this time, and investigators continue to collect evidence and speak with witnesses.
This fatal crash has sent shockwaves through the Parker’s Lake community, where both victims were known and respected. Friends and neighbors described Roger Stanton as a friendly and helpful man, often seen riding his four-wheeler around the area. The death of Linda Moncries is also being felt deeply, with those who knew her recalling her as a warm and caring person.
As the investigation continues, the community remains united in grief and support for the families affected. Funeral arrangements for both victims are expected to be announced in the coming days.
