
PHOENIX, AZ — A fatal shooting early Tuesday morning has left one man dead and another facing murder charges following a violent confrontation in west Phoenix. The Phoenix Police Department has identified the victim as 35-year-old Ruben Longoria, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds near 61st Avenue and Indian School Road.
Police were called to the scene just after 7 a.m. on May 28. When officers arrived, they found Longoria lying on the ground with severe injuries. Despite efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was quickly secured as detectives began their investigation into the city’s latest homicide.
Shortly after the shooting, police identified 42-year-old Johnny Olivarez Sr. as the primary suspect. He was located at a nearby residence and taken into custody without incident. Olivarez Sr. has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Longoria’s death. Authorities have not yet said if a weapon was recovered during the arrest.
Investigators have not released information on what led to the fatal shooting or whether the two men knew each other.
