El Paso, TX — June 5, 2025 — A man who died in a police shootout over the weekend has been identified as 35-year-old Salvador Valdiviezo. The shooting also left a female police officer injured and has led to an ongoing investigation by the El Paso Police Department.
The incident happened on the afternoon of Sunday, June 1, when two officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home on the 6400 block of Passo Via Street, near Borderland Road. As the officers approached the house, Valdiviezo allegedly fired a handgun at them. Both officers returned fire, hitting Valdiviezo multiple times. Police confirmed these details in a news release shared Monday.
Valdiviezo was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. One of the responding officers, a female, was also shot during the exchange. She is currently being treated at University Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. The names of both officers have not been released, but officials confirmed they have each been with the department for two years.
Property records from El Paso County show that a house on Passo Via Street was bought in 2022 by Salvador Valdiviezo and Tiffanie Y. Valdiviezo. It is believed this is the same home where the incident took place. Police have not released details about the domestic violence call or the people involved in the original complaint.
According to court records, a person named Salvador Valdiviezo has one previous criminal conviction—a misdemeanor charge for driving while intoxicated in 2013. However, it is unclear if this record belongs to the same individual involved in the shooting. Investigators have not confirmed if Valdiviezo had a known history of violence or if this incident was part of a longer domestic issue.
The El Paso Police Department is continuing to investigate what led to the deadly exchange of gunfire. As with all officer-involved shootings, both officers are expected to be placed on administrative leave while the case is reviewed. Authorities are asking anyone with more information about the incident to contact police. Updates are expected as the investigation moves forward and more facts come to light.
