TWIN CITY, GA — A domestic dispute in Twin City turned deadly Saturday night, leaving two parents dead and their children without a family. Authorities say 27-year-old Zaria Khadejah Carr was fatally shot by her husband, 36-year-old Shamarcus Jameal Carr, who later died by suicide after fleeing the scene.
The Twin City Police Department responded to a 911 call around 9:30 p.m. on the 100 block of 5th Avenue, reporting a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they found Zaria Carr unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene, as efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
According to investigators, Shamarcus Carr fled the house in a 2021 Dodge Challenger, prompting a statewide alert. Authorities tracked him to Wayne County, where deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle shortly before 11 p.m. During an attempted traffic stop, Carr reportedly shot himself. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the homicide investigation. An autopsy on Zaria Carr is pending, while Wayne County officials are handling the suicide investigation. So far, police have not released details about what led to the violent argument, and no prior history of domestic disturbances at the residence has been confirmed.
Tragically, the Carrs leave behind two young children, whose ages have not been disclosed. Officials confirmed that the children were not physically harmed during the incident. They are currently in the care of family members as the Department of Family and Children Services steps in to assist. The loss has devastated the small Twin City community, where residents are expressing shock and sorrow.
Friends and neighbors have described the couple as quiet and mostly private. The incident has also reignited discussions about the importance of addressing domestic violence and the need for community support systems. Authorities are encouraging anyone facing domestic troubles to seek help before situations escalate to tragedy.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement hopes to piece together the final moments that led to the deaths. Meanwhile, the focus remains on the future and well-being of the children left behind.
