
BIRMINGHAM, AL – A fatal shooting in Birmingham on Tuesday night claimed the life of an Irondale man, adding to the city’s rising number of violent incidents. Authorities identified the victim as 42-year-old Stephen Kemp.
The shooting occurred in the 1100 block of Avenue F, where officers from the West Precinct responded to reports of gunfire around 7 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Kemp inside a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire. Emergency responders from the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed him to UAB Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have yet to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that details remain scarce, and no suspects have been taken into custody. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses in an effort to uncover what led to Kemp’s tragic death.
This incident marks Birmingham’s 20th homicide of the year, underscoring growing concerns about gun violence in the city. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in the investigation.
